Affordable Electrical Safety Checks for Small Businesses

240V Electrical Portable Appliance Testing
(Test and Tag)

Electrical testing and tagging checks the safety of electrical appliances and leads. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000, all workplaces must be able to demonstrate safe systems of work, including electrical safety. To reduce the risk of electric shock, anything that plugs into a 240V or 415V power supply should be checked for safety regularly.

As small business specialists, we test all single phase 240V LV class 1 and 2 appliances including extension leads and power boards. If you require three phase testing please contact us prior to making your booking.

FAQ

What items need test and tagging? All portable appliances and leads that can be plugged in and out of 240v or 415v volt power needs to be inspected, tested and tagged in every type of workplace, organisation, or community centre. This includes things such as tools and machinery, chargers, computers and screen, kitchen appliances, lamps, powerboards, adapters and extension leads. The following items are excluded from testing and tagging under AS/NZS 3760:2010: Fixed or hard wired items Items at a height exceeding 2.5mtrs Items which need to be dismantled to establish safety of operation Demonstration items, sample items or new stock in a retail or warehouse outlet.

How often do I need to test and tag? The frequency of testing can vary depending on where and how the item is used. Your technician will advise you when they recommend the retesting of each individual item. As a guide, the most common retesting intervals are; 3 months - Building, construction and demolition 6 months - Factories, warehouses and production 12 months - An environment where the equipment/supply cord is prone to flexing or open to abuse 5 yearly - An environment where the equipment/supply cord is not prone to flexing or open to abuse.

Will my work be disrupted by test and tagging? Our technicians need to unplug cords from their power point in order to perform the appropriate testing. This test generally only takes a minute or two per item. Once the cord is deemed safe, you may continue working as per usual with that item.

What happens if an item fails the safety test? Any appliances, cords or power boards that have failed their safety test will be marked with a "fail" tag and should be removed from service immediately.
